Why Are We Really Fat?

The NIH recently released their latest statistics on our overweight population.

Over 70% of the population is now overweight and of that over 44% are considered clinically obese!

That's pretty freighting given that clinical obesity is associated with so many chronic diseases.

This trend actually began in the late 70's early 80's and has skyrocketed since then.

I recently was looking at my high school album, I graduated in 1974.

Interestingly I couldn't help but notice there were absolutely NO Obese Kids!

Yea. there were a few "heavy" kids and God help them they were teased unmercifully, but I did not see one kid who I would describe as clinically obese.

So, what happened between then and today?

Did we just all start eating like pigs and stop moving?

Actually, shortly after WW2,  we started consuming many more calories than say back at the turn of the century due to increased food supply.

Just look at the difference of a pro football player in the 20's compared to one today.

Today their gigantic given the access to more calories'.

I've noticed something very interesting over the years I've been in practice.  When we really drill down on people's diet, many of my "overweight" patients are actually consuming fewer calories than they actually should given there current weight.

The real reason were on this fast track of societal collapse might surprise you.

Let me back up and give you a quick review of human physiology.

The energy humans run on is produced in our mitochondria. These are the energy production plants in our cells. Typically, the average human cell has about 200 of these energy plants per cell unless you're talking about a nerve cell which has about 2,000.

These organelles are actually "bacteria" with a completely different genome than human.

That means we are completely dependent on bacteria for life.

These bacteria can only use glucose and fat to produce what we actually need to create energy, which is ATP, Adenosine Tri Phosphate...

By the way, the more mitochondria you have the younger you are!

Here's the real problem with the current epidemic of obesity.
We have essentially waged war on our bacteria!

In 1976 Monsanto released the weed killer Round Up.

There are so many issues with this poison that for the sake of brevity I'll only cover the most problematic.

First, one of the main active ingredients in Round Up is glyphosate. But there are other ingredients that add to the damaging effect of glyphosate such as surfactants'

This chemical was produced to be water soluble. Bad ideal since that means it can go any were.

It evaporates goes into the air and rain and damages our topsoil of which we are completely dependent on for our health as this is were all the nutrients we need for good health come from. It then runs off into our rivers and lakes. Of which current estimates are that over 85% of the worlds rain is contaminated and over 90% of the worlds soil is contaminated.

The world currently sprays over 4 billion pounds of this poison every year with China being the world leader now with the U.S. being number 2.

Side note; The area most sprayed in China is, Whu Haun Provence.  (where covid originated)....

Guess what glyphosate was originally patented as?

An antibiotic!

The Japanese doctor that invented it basically said, there's no way were putting this out as a drug because it was too toxic. So, Monsatin comes along looking for a replacement for Agent Orange which was used in Viet Nam as a deforesting chemical and said, this is slightly less toxic, let's give this crap a go.

And what do antibiotics do? ....Kill bacteria!

We started poisoning our mitochondria in the late 70's, which is when we began seeing the rise in obesity and in 96' Monsatin released the Round Up ready seed which allowed the crops to withstand higher and higher amounts to be sprayed on them

If that wasn't bad enough, some genius discovered that by literally spraying it directly on wheat, a process called desiccation,  (wheat has to be killed and left in the field to dry before processing), that they could better time the harvesting.

97% of all commercially available wheat has undergone this process.

But understand most of our crops including cotton are sprayed with this poison.

So, the real reason were getting fatter and fatter is because we have poisoned our mitochondria and essentially cannot use the calories we consume as energy and subsequently these unused calories now get stored as fat!

So, what's the solution?

Obviously stop eating this poison!

Look up The environmental working group.

Every year they release the list of what's called the dirty dozen and the clean 15.

The dirty dozen is a list of the most heavily sprayed crops. Of which Strawberrys always seem to make the top of the list. The clean 15 are the crops you can safely buy nonorganic and save money.

Try to buy as much as possible food grown from "regenerative farms".

These are farms that go beyond organic which can have similar problems as non organic due to growing issues. Regenerative farms first manage the soil correctly. Hughe difference between organic and regenerative as far as nutrient density.

If you live near me The Ecology Center here in San Juan Capistrano is a regenerative farm.

Go to your local farmers market and ask if they practice regenerative farming?

Trader Joes is a pretty safe bet as far as not getting contaminated food.

If you're looking for a great cause to donate to, support Farmers Footprint.'

This is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping farmers transition from chemical warfare farming to regenerative farming.

Dr. Zach Bush is an amazing triple board certified MD who has dedicated his life to this issue and is a great source of education on this topic. He is also the founder of Farmers Footprint.  He has a very unique gut support product that can very quickly reverse the damage caused from Round Up & other toxins.

You can loose excess fat, but not by exercising more or reducing calories. You just need to realize what the real problem is.
Now you do!

If you want help in moving in that direction, let me know.

As always, watching your back...........Dr. Steve
