Transgender, Is It Something In The Water?
I know the title of this article sounds like the beginning of a joke, but sadly it's not.
Understand this is not a political issue for me but rather a potential public health issue. I make no moral judgement regarding this topic!
At this time more than 1% of the population identify as "transgender" The most identifying as bisexual. The highest populations being in Calif. (2.6 million) and Texas, (1.7 million) The question to me, is this just that we now live in a society that is much more tolerant of this identity and hence more transgender people feel safe to identify who they really think they are, or.... Is this another symptom of the ever-increasing toxic environment we now live in?
Let's look at a fascinating study done at Berkley University by Professor Tyrone Hayes. He and his team put 70 male frogs in water that contained 0.1 ppb, (parts per billion) of the pesticide Atrazine. This level is 30 times lower than what the EPA allows in drinking water.
75% of the male frogs went sterile, and 10 completely converted to being female capable of giving birth!!!
The WHO (World Health Organization) states that globally 1 in 6 people are now infertile.
In the U.S. we spray more than 80 million pounds of Atrazine on crops annually. Atrazine is a known endocrine disruptor which means it interferes with your hormones. The molecules that determine for one, your sexual identity. And, also controls fertility.
Another known endocrine disruptor is the byproduct of plastic degradation. It's estimated that every human on this planet has micro-plastics in their cells.
It may surprise you, as it did me to learn that actually the highest source of plastic degradation does not come from plastic bottles. The number one source is, paint! Paint is produced using plastic polymers.
The second highest source are from, tires! Every tire will shed over 2 pounds of plastic into the environment through the life of the tire.
Other sources of endocrine disruptors, of which there are many, is birth control chemicals finding there way back into the food chain. These molecules are very small and as such when a woman pee's the water treatment process cannot remove them and they are then dumped into the ocean. I've been told there are whole schools of fish right off our cost that are hermaphroditic.
Keep in mind this is not a known causative effect but a correlative one which needs to clearly be studied more. But regardless of whether it is responsible for causing what seems like an uptick in people identifying as transgender, it certainly is a source of contamination that needs to be addressed.
